A few words about the creation of linoleum
The documented owner of the patent in 1763, at the invention of flooring like linoleum, became Nathan Smith. At that time, this coating was: a mixture consisting of bee wax, ordinary resin, coniferous trees, oil from flax seeds were applied to the base of the fabric. This mass was applied to the fabric and rolled to cool, which became a dense wear -resistant coating. His disadvantages were that it was plain and poorly bended. Much later, they began to add crushed cork crumbs to the mass.
At the end of 1863, this coating officially received the name “linoleum”, which meant “oiled woven canvas”, thanks to the Englishman Frederik Walton.
Modern linoleums
In modern days, linoleums are called polymer coatings, they come with the basis and without the basis, are also covered with a layer of insulation, such as felt and from polyurethane.
Based on the production method, the entire linoleum of synthetic materials is divided into several types.
one. Linoleum in which the coating is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is produced without a base, either on a fabric basis, or based on low heat production and high sounding. This type of linoleum is the most popular, although at low temperatures it becomes less elastic.
2. Linoleum Relin, consists of two layer, which is based on rubber processed into crumbs. It is very elastic and not susceptible to moisture, but has very low thermal insulation.
3. Alquid linoleum is made on a fabric basis, can be plain or with a color pattern. It has low heat production and good sound insulation. The disadvantages are that it has increased brittleness.
PVC linoleum
In the production of PVC linoleum, the basis is fiberglass fabric. What the basis will be, such will be linoleum. The main thing is that the basis be without damage and holes, otherwise bloating in the form of bubbles will occur in that place. Fiberglass is impregnated with polyvinyl chloride paste. The denser the impregnation layer, the smoother the upper layer of linoleum will be.
The next layer is applied to which the pattern is imprinted. And finally, the last layer of transparent PVC for increased wear resistance is applied.
After that, linoleum is treated in the furnace with the desired temperature. This process must be mandatory, as it directly depends on what the final product will be. After some manipulations, the floor covering is ready.
